So Ian and I have been watching 2 episodes of Gatchaman at lunch everyday for the last week or so. Today Ian forgot his lunch out and unfortunately he missed out on 2 of the best episodes I've seen so far.
Jigokillers, The People Eating Flowers (parts I and II)! Holy crap, they really turned the drama level on high for these! Galactor shoots these plants that eat women, a buncha women get killed onscreen, then one devours Jun (she survives inside because of a suit she stole from Dr. Nambu). Gatchaman decides to sacrifice Jun by torching a field of the Jigokillers, but they only make things worse and spread the pollen.
Ken quits the team, then Red Impulse kicks his ass and calls him a coward. They eventually save Jun (breaking a few Galactor necks, and impaling a few Galactor agents along the way). After all the drama of thinking they'd killed Jun, then actually managing to save her life, Ken fucking slaps her for disobeying orders. Sweet Christmas!
Georgio, didn't you tell me this show actually got better as you got deeper into it?
No, I meant Katzenberg! Episode 7, when Ber Katse disguises himself as the German Nazi-looking guy and flies around standing on an old fighter plan, steering by pulling a rope back and forth.
Also, Dan, this show only gets better! Episodes 50-54 are some of the best anime I've ever seen. I think you could probably have taken the 26 important episodes of the series and made a tight and intense show.
I'm glad we do have 105 eps of it. I hope it did ok on DVD so they will licence Gatchaman II and Gatchaman F (fighter)
Georgio "I'm gonna fire a bird-missile" Paulin
Realizes that I now have nothing to look forward to since Battlestar finished

Careful firing those "bird-missiles", you might get Nadine knocked up, then you would have to knock her down (stairs that is). BAM! ;D
"Aside from, 'I'll hit it with a Bird Missile!' and 'Katse!' I never had more than three lines. Oh, and 'Shit, shit, shit.' That was all, so I had a lot of free time." (Laughs) --Isao Sasaki, interview for Gatchaman Graffiti, November, 1994
Holy crap, I just watched "Red Impulse's Secret" and "Farewell, Red Impulse" and you were right Georgio. Those episodes were fucking crazy intense. At the end Ken said he was going to kill Berg Katze with his bare hands! Plus the next episode is called Gatchaman burns with rage!
