I'm curious to know what happened to the many individuals that worked at the Moncton location of 1,000,000 Comix (a Montreal-based franchise) in the 1980s and Pre-Haileys '90s.
Does anyone know?
Also, for a period in the late-'80s, only one person worked there at a time ("manager"). Turnover was really high because the mangers would frequently change. One of them was a woman. Whatever happened to Moncton's first (?) female comic book store manager and who was she?

Khaled (who's friends with a lot of people here) used to be the manager of either Hailey's or 1,000,000 Comix. That's about all I've got though.

It was haileys and he's got some good stories from that place about going to porn conventions with his boss.

What about the chick that worked at Wilkies? All I remember is she liked it in the ass, and didn't mind talking about it in front of little Ians. Her parents were Jehovah's Witnesses (which would explain a LOT of things)... she worked there on account of her in depth Magic The Gathering knowledge, but unfortunately, after I left, she ignored the comic book customers; ie, her bread & butter... She currently exists online here: www.shanmonster.com/As for the others, off the top of my head: - Fat homosexual guy who used to run 1,000,000: last I head he mad a living making bondage-pants, but that was a looong time ago. - Mike who used to run 1,000,000: I'm replying to his message - Larry Lane who used to run Haley's Comics: likes to touch little boys; was working at GameZilla for a while. Don't know anyone older than that; when I started reading Larry was running Haley's and the guy whose name I can't remember was running 1,000,000.

I think you're confusing 1,000,000 comics with Wilkies, giome.

Yeah, Jim Bain was running Wilkie's before I came on board... The guy that started the comic storr that then became 1000000 comics was some foreign guy whose name currently escapes me. That was around 1986-ish... he then started a store in Saint-John and Bathurst as well before bolting and leaving lots of unpaid rent as well as unpaid employees.

Was that the 1,000,000 Guy who bolted?

Well, in the mid-80's, when Larry's "The Comic Shoppe" was the only place intown to buy comics, this foreign guy comes in and opens a store called "Doorway to Fantasy" (or maybe it was "Stairway to Fantasy") to give Larry some competition and he failed miserably within less than a year. His name started with a "B"... it's probably you... When it was becoming apparant that he was going to close shop, he was saved by Montreal's One Million Comics, which is what his store became and he ran it for a while. At some point around 1989, it becomes Halley's Comics, and he's out of the picture and Larry was running the joint (his shop closed by the end of 1988 and bought out by Ian Wilkie), albeit for a short time. I'm not sure how the transition of ownership from Montreal's One Million to Moncton's Halley's Comics occured, but I'm sure once the foreign guy bolted, the Devonas probably came in to save the day, as Chuck Devona was perpetually pissed off that comic kids were buying his comics for a quarter and selling them at Larry's for a few bucks (even though he bought them for a nickel or less). At one point, he would put a black markered spot over the price tag out of spite, even though he was making 500% profit on every comic he sold...

It seems that, in general, Moncton's comic scene memories are fuzzy.
From what I remember, 1,000,000 Comix became Hailey's (or Haley's... whatever) when United Book Store bought the Moncton location around 1992-1993 (Superman died around the same time... relatively speaking).

It's possible that it happened in the early 90's... I know that Larry worked at a Green Gables in 1989 after he sold his store to Wilkies.
